DBS SUPERLEGGERA VOLANTE NAMED SPORTSCAR OF THE YEAR
- Fastest ever convertible Aston Martin wins “Sportscar of the Year” at Motor Awards 2019
- Award collected by Miles Nurnberger at star studded ceremony in London
3 October 2019, Gaydon, UK: The Volante derivative of Aston Martin’s flagship Super GT, the DBS Superleggera was awarded “Sportscar of the Year” at last night’s Motor Awards with The Sun and Sunday Times. This prestigious annual awards ceremony pays tribute to the best of the best in the automotive business.
The award nominees are selected by the editors and writers of The Sunday Times Driving and Driving.co.uk along with their colleagues at Times Luxx magazine and Sun Motors, after whittling down extensive lists of their favourites, but the actual winners are chosen by their readers.
In the Sportscar class, the panel of experts selected “models that were breathtakingly fast around a race track, as well as being great fun to drive at sensible speeds on the public road.” Competition included the McLaren 600LT Spider, the Porsche 911, BMW Z4, Toyota Supra and the Audi R8 V10 Performance but it was the DBS Superleggera Volante that came out on top.
The brief for the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante was to create the most beautiful flagship Volante on the market, whilst retaining the coupe’s powerful dynamics, aggressive poise and astonishing performance. Designed in-house under the guidance of Aston Martin Vice President & Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, the DBS Superleggera Volante delivers a unique and unforgettable driving experience.
Collecting the award on behalf of Aston Martin, Miles Nurnberger, Director of Design said: “Awards like this are actually a double honour as we have to first be selected by industry experts but then the real test is what the readers think of our products. The DBS Superleggera Volante provided its own set of unique challenges as we had to not only preserve the spectacular looks and performance of the coupe but add the extra level of sensory overload that only an open-top Super GT can deliver. I’m delighted that the readers of the Sun and the Sunday Times voted for us.”
